Summary: Great for outdoor music fun!
... I bought this to take camping for a Phish concert..... We draped a white sheet over our tent, and connected this to the outputs on the "brain" unit of my in-dash DVD player in my jeep. We played concert videos with the top-off the jeep, and had crowds of kids (not in the under-18 sense) gather to drink, dance, and party away! This was certainly a hit! I was thinking of taking my expensive HD-projector from my home theater, but didn't want to risk damaging it etc, and my in-dash isn't capable of HD content anyways,

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-01-31 Summary: A fun magnet experiment ... There were a lot of reviews about the difficulty of getting this product working and I was naturally a little hesitant. Still, I'm very interested in levitation and this seemed like fun so I ordered it. I got the top working just fine in about an hour and played with it that same night until my fingers were sore. In a few days I was able to get the top to spin repeatedly for around 2 minutes without any additional products. I will be purchasing the Levitron Perpetuator next year to keep the top spinning "indefinitely". ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-03-29 Summary: levitron top ... The Levitron takes a while to calibrate, but works well. It took hundreds of tries to figure out. It finally worked once I added weights to it. It could be frustrating and requires lots of patience. ...more
[3] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-01-28 Summary: Not a toy ... This is an amazing device. It's quite incredible--once you get it to work. My elven-year-old son had a delightful time putting it together, but there is a serious learning curve when it comes to making the device actually work. While an adult has the patience required to learn the technique, my preteen became board after several tries and gave up. Still, it makes for an effective demonstration of several scientific concepts--once you figure out how to make it work . . . ...more
Editorial Reviews ... Product Description | Yes. It's Levitating. Really. Of course it's using MAGIC to do so - the magic of magnetic repulsion and attraction that is. The Levitron is a magnetic anti-gravity top that is just as fun to setup as it is to watch in motion. Basically, you just use the included top weights to adjust to the perfect weight (which varies from location to location and surface to surface), then you adjust the legs on the base. Then spin the top, slowly lift the lifter (with top on it) until the top escapes...more
