... I received this ant farm as a gift last May. I ordered the ants and they arrived within one week and only one was dead. I really enjoyed watching the ants tunnel, develop shifts, select their dormitory and mortuary. All that took only two weeks and then they were satisfied with their efforts and stopped working. I caved in one of the tunnels to see what they would do...they started working again. But, they were also starting to die...about one every other day...so I set them free to die in a natural environment. As

... A very nice scientific experiment that is easy, fairly inexpensive and is good for all ages. There is very little that one has to do to keep this running, as the ants do it all. The only downside to it is the ants have a short life span as federal laws prohibit the Queen Ant (which would keep the ant farm alive) from being sold across state lines. Other than that, a nice, living experiment.

I am shocked at how many people have never owned one. I am 24 and am still captivated by my ants. He loved it then and still does now at 6. He is better at it than I am but I can manage to get the ants in. If you push too hard on the plastic ants they can get a little bent out of shape and not work as well. Just pinch them so they aren't as flattened down and they work fine.
