Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2007-01-10
Summary: Good, but redundant
... The content is very thorough, maybe too much so. I decided to use this for my 9 yo's science this year. I like the simplicity of the definitions, but they are drawn out for too long. I think less would be more here. I can tell my student is a little bored at times because the subject is not moving along fast enough. Having said that, when we reinforce what we have learned through extra discussion - she recalls the majority of the information (it was not sooooo slow that she tuned out). She does love the sometimes silly

Summary: Good concept book but short on math
... I ordered this book after finding the Pre-level 1 Chemistry book to basic for my Homeschooled 1st grader. This book introduces important concepts in short chapters and the concepts are very well explained. My son enjoys the book and we find ideas on the internet for weekly experiments to help him understand the concepts better. My only complaint is that there are too few equations and too few math equations introduced in this book. If my 1st grader is learning multiplication and division, 4th - 6th graders (which is

Summary: Fantastic!
... My 9YO son wants to be aeronautical engineer and decided he wanted to start studying NOW! He needs to study Physics and Chemistry. I searched everywhere for age appropriate books for him and these were the only ones I could find. When we received them, I was thrilled to see they were exactly what we needed. He loves reading them, they are entertaining and easily understood. It's been great revision for me, and I'm learning new things too! It's wonderful to have books from which to teach your kids that are fun. I highly

Summary: Real Science 4 Kids
... I found the Physics, Level 1 book very well written and illustrated. My students really liked the book, too. I used the textbook for my student's weekly assigned reading. I also used the Teacher's Manuel that contains excellent additional information and the directions for instructing the students on how to set up one of the 10 different experiments each week. My students used the Real Science 4 Kids lab notes to make their notes which took them through the steps of the Scientific method. EXCELLENT material.

How Come? Every Kid's Science Questions Explained
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-08-26 Summary: Best kid's science book I've ever encountered. ... I love science and read a lot of adult science books. My son, 7, is really into science too - so we run through a lot of kid's science books. I've never encountered a better one than this one. "How Come?" never condescends and it never cuts corners in its explanations. It focuses in with razor sharpness on the questions and issues kids (and childlike minds) have and then answers them with clear and rational explanations that really inform and educate. I find myself reading this book and learning things - even on topics ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2000-03-15 Summary: A Fabulous Book! ... This is one of the most fascinating books I have ever read. It seems like everything you've ever wondered about science or nature is explained here, everything from where zebras got their stripes to where lightning comes from. Although the publisher classifies this as a "young person's book," it contains far more detail in its explanations than you find in some science books aimed at adults. Each answer, in fact, is an essay on the subject, long enough to really explain the answer. I also think that the tone of the ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-10-17 Summary: Wonderful book! ... This book is wonderful, witty, and filled with knowledge that you can read over and over. It answers questions that kids have never thought of, and ones that kids ponder about once in awhile. Being twelve years old, I enjoyed the books quite a bit! I'll probably buy the other books written by these authors, too! (Of course, I'll buy them on Amazon.com). ...more
[4] Rating: 5 Date: 2000-03-17 Summary: Really cool book! ... This is a really cool book! I always wondered why drops of water cling to the inside of a glass when you turn it over, and this book finally answered my question. I also found out that pandas aren't really bears (they're more like oversized raccoons) and whether it rains on other planets. I would recommend this book for any kid or adult who really wants to know. The drawings are funny, too. (like the radioactive toupee and the black widow spider wedding, where she promises to love, honor, and DIGEST). ...more

[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-12-28 Summary: A Must-to-Have Science Book ... This book has nothing to do with the Popular Science magazine, but is a good "Almanac on the Science Facts and Principles All Kids Must Know." It's an easy-to-read book - better than any science textbooks I have seen. Newton Kid's Bookstore ([...]) had many kids' reviews on this book. I just wish Brainpop could produce an update from this 2004 edition. ...more
